Superbet Guyana is paying all of its customers who won big on a bet they placed on a football match which was broadcast on Saturday. The company is making the payments in spite of detecting errors which compromised the process for the broadcast of the game.
Superbet Guyana had initially taken a position to cancel the bets made and simply return the wagers placed by customers. This would have been in keeping with international rules governing the placement of bets on games and its operations.
But faithful customers were not in agreement with this, especially since they were unaware, before and after placing their bets, that there was any error or technical difficulties. The position by the company made some of its followers feel cheated. This was the case with businessman, Nolan Lancaster.
The entrepreneur told Kaieteur News that he placed several bets on Saturday last at one of Superbet’s locations on Albert and Sixth Streets. The man related that he placed seven bets on a football game. He ended up with two losses and five wins.
“I bought five tickets on a particular bet. That was how I ended up with the five wins. It was $100,000 per ticket. The bet I won was that Harry Kane, a professional English footballer, was going to be the top goal scorer for the just concluded English Premier League season. I got about $2.1M in total winnings,” the businessman expressed.
He added, “On Monday, I went to collect my winnings at the outlet at Albert and Sixth Streets. When I got there, I was informed by the betting shop owner that he was told by the main provider that the bet was cancelled.”
The businessman was hurt by this and turned to the media to voice his concerns.
Kaieteur News made several attempts yesterday afternoon to contact Shrikant Kisoensingh, the General Manager of Superbet Guyana.
Later in the day, Kisoensingh, in the company of Ashwien Surjbalisingh, another General Manager of Superbet Guyana came over to Kaieteur News to provide a number of clarifications regarding the company, the international standards it is governed by and what were the circumstances that led to the bet being cancelled.

CANCELLED BET
Kisoensingh explained that the company provides a platform for sport fanatics to place their bets on various games. These include tennis, basket ball, football and cricket.
He said that bets are placed on odds which are provided by the feed provider of the game which is aired internationally. Kisoensingh said that the bet on which Lancaster, like others, made was later cancelled as it was found that there were a few technical difficulties regarding the transmission connection which did not allow the odds regarding the game to reflect accurately.

Kisoensingh said that the company is protected when it comes to such circumstances. According to its international rules, the company reserves the right to cancel bets even subsequently, if any such bet was won by the user as a result of a technical fault or error and the company is in the position to prove the technical fault or error.
The GM also pointed out that according to its rules, the burden of proof of technical fault or error is with the company. In any such case, the stake of the bet or game shall be re-credited to the player’s account.
Another regulation governing the business says, “Superbet does not accept any liability for transmission-input and/or analysis errors. In particular, Superbet reserves the right for obvious errors, such as errors related to opportunities or events/teams/etc., in its sole discretion to correct…”
Kisoensingh is also urging all customers in the future to read all the rules and regulations regarding its operations.

RESOLUTION
After an exchange of concerns, Lancaster and the Superbet General Managers were able to arrive at an amicable resolution.
Kisoensingh said that instead of refunding Lancaster his $500, 000 stakes, he would grant him the $2.1M winnings. The General Manager shared that Lancaster is not the only one in this quandary. There are perhaps two other cases of a similar nature in Guyana and over 30 in Suriname. He took the decision last night to have all customers paid off in relation to the compromised bet.
The General Manager also related that he is interested in maintaining a good standing in Guyana and recommitted to strengthening the company’s relationship with its customers.
Lancaster was pleased with the resolution. Both parties left Kaieteur News in good spirits.
